Security Officer Per Diem Rotating Position Summary

Provides protection for staff, patients, visitors, volunteers, physicians, students, and property at the hospital(s) in accordance with policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives.  Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures relating to security to ensure a safe environment at CHN.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and secures environment for patients, visitors, and associates.  Monitors parking facilities, pedestrian, and vehicular traffic in accordance with department and hospital policy.  Patrols secured and non-secured areas.
  • Inspects areas for safety or hazards.
  • Responds to security alarms and emergency situations.
  • Coaches to assist patients, visitors, and associates; analyzes area problems; demonstrates how to perform assistive tasks; establishes rapport and provides feedback.
  • Identifies and collects data needed for problem solving.      Identifies problems and takes appropriate action. Clearly and concisely documents actions taken or incidence involvement. 
  • Follows established emergency procedures: Fire, Disaster, etc. – where to obtain information, information followed, and documentation to complete.
  • Demonstrates communication skills - asks questions in a way that opens up communication and uncovers problems; finds common ground in disputes and achieves cooperation with minimum conflict; consistently seeks a “win-win” resolution. 
  • Provides clear, direct and specific instructions or information to patients and visitors - listens with patience and empathy; speaks effectively and clearly in both group and one to one conversations.
  • May, when so assigned, serves in capacity of K-9 unit (handler and dog) according to Carondelet K-9 Security Guidelines. 
  • Utilizes equipment used in department (i.e. two way radio communication, o.c. spray, etc.).
  • Participates in the organizational record-keeping system (i.e. Event Reporting System) using established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains own basic skills and knowledge.  Keeps aware of new security trends.
  • When assigned, serves in capacity as a shuttle/courier driver.
  • Monitors and promotes compliance with hospital policies such as solicitation, smoking, and visiting hours.
  • Facilitates required departmental adjustments to ensure cost-effective delivery of quality services. 
  • Conducts investigation of reported situations and documents accordingly.
  • Assists Director and Operations Leads to achieve established goals of the department and CHN.
  • When assigned, performs in a shift lead capacity and delegates actions to be taken when Supervisory personnel are unavailable. 
  • May be required to assist in training of new Security Officers. 

 

 

THE SECURITY OFFICER PER DIEM ROTATING CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

Education

Required: High school graduate or GED; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

Required: 2 years in a security role, law enforcement, or military background; or, a minimum of 3 years of strong customer service roles with the ability and willingness to learn security practices.

Certifications

Required: 

Current valid unsuspended Arizona Driver’s License

Security Officer (Unarmed Security) is instrumental in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, patients, physicians, students, vendors, and visitors by monitoring and patrolling our facilities. Officers demonstrate exceptional customer service while providing assistance with disruptive incidents, emergency services, personal protection, and traffic/parking control.
