Senior Ultrasound Tech FT Days Position Summary

Working Lead, coordinates scheduling and efforts of the Ultrasound Techs. Mentors and trains staff. Position coordinates with other departments the day-to-day activity for routine, portable and invasive patient procedures. Works with the Manager of Radiology, the Radiologists, and other personnel to supervise and perform technical procedures in General and Vascular Ultrasound.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates the scheduling and efforts of the Ultrasound Technologists. Mentors new and less experienced staff and students.

Performs general ultrasound procedures for patients of all age groups served. Duties include: general operating procedures, start-up procedures, calibration of equipment, troubleshooting, QC, preventative maintenance, malfunctioning equipment and problem solving. Assists in evaluation of new procedures, reagents and equipment. Ensures correct exam is performed with the right patient, at the right time, verifies patient identification with proper film. Explains procedure and assesses the patient before testing occurs. Follows protocol for filing and copying of films.

Performs billing and charging with hospital computer systems.

Identifies, proposes solutions and assists in implementation of ideas for improvement in patient care and departmental / hospital operations. Identifies opportunities and implements strategies to decrease waste in supplies and equipment.

Maintains inter and intra departmental communication via phone, fax, computer, etc. Maintains communication with radiologists. Identify anatomy and recognize types of disease processes by interpretation of measurements and by visual inspection of images. Calculates various measurements by using established formulas or computational capabilities of the individual piece of equipment.

Prioritizes workload. Completes work in a timely manner. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment. Shares responsibility for organizing supplies, tracking, stocking and storing equipment.

Participates in the peer review and orientation process for new team members. Coordinates and participates in completion of the orientation competency checklist for new hires and annual competencies for all employees. Manages employee performance by participating in evaluation process and coaching.

Refers problems/issues to the appropriate resources when unable to independently manage the situation.

Utilizes personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.

Uses policy and procedure manuals and other reference material to ensure proper course of action. Participates in departmental meetings by providing input and reading posted communication

Position is required to work on-call (stand-by) shifts and return to work as outlined in the department policy.

Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

Special Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills necessary to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiological and medical terms and to exchange information with patients and staff. Problem solving skills.

SENIOR ULTRASOUND TECH FT DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or CCI Certified. Basic Life Support.

Preferred: RT(R), RDMS (General and OB), RVT

Candidates without the required certification have up to one (1) year from date of hire to obtain

EDUCATION: 

Required:  Completion of formal ultrasound technology training which meets requirements for certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Preferred: Associates degree

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required:  Three years UItrasound and Vascular experience with demonstrated leadership skills

Preferred: Five years Ultrasound and Vascular hospital experience with demonstrated leadership skills
