Job Summary
Prosthetist/Orthotist designs and fits artificial limbs, braces and appliances for patients with physical disability based on physician's specifications. Examines patient and prepares cast or model to assist with the construction of the appliance and selection of required materials/components. Being a Prosthetist/Orthotist fits finished appliance to patient and makes any adjustments to ensure comfort and maximum functionality. Repairs and modifies prosthetic for the patient.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Others may be assigned.
- Creating a comprehensive prosthetic/orthotic treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient in collaboration with the ordering physician(s).
- Performing comprehensive assessments of patients to obtain an understanding of the patients’ prosthetic/orthotic needs and goals to design the most appropriate prosthetic/orthotic devices.
- Completes evaluations, orders (e.g., pictures and casting), deliveries and fittings of patients.
- Select materials, make cast measurements, model modifications and layouts, considering new techniques and materials.
- Interacts with candidates in various forms including phone calls, texts, emails, and face-to-face meetings.
- Providing continuing patient care and periodic evaluation to assure/maintain/document optimal fit and function of the prosthesis/orthosis
- Preparing extremely comprehensive clinical notes and documentation in a prompt and organized manner.
- Compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Participating in personal and professional development through continuing education, training, and research
Qualifications
Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience required to perform the job.
- Bachelor’s Degree Required from an accredited college or university
- Prosthetics certification recognized by the Commission on Accresiation of Allied Health Education Programs, or its equivalent required.
- One year of experience or complete a residency program in prosthetics.
