Job Summary

Reporting to the director/manager and lead technician of noninvasive cardiology, and according to established procedure and upon the request of the physician, performs a variety of electrocardiograms (EKG’s), Holter monitor application, echocardiography tests (i.e., M-Mode, 2D scanning, cardiac Doppler, and color flow mapping), designed to assist the physician in evaluating heart function and/or impairment, monitoring cardiac change and patient progress. Performs a variety of clerical and service duties.

Job Responsibilities:

Performs electrocardiography, stress testing, Holter monitor application, echocardiography studies: M-Mode, two-dimensional, cardiac Doppler, and color flow mapping evaluations. Schedules procedures. Obtains pertinent patient information prior to testing. Prepares and instructs patients on the purpose and specifics of the procedure. Prepares studies as required for physician interpretation, and ensures necessary steps are taken to generate reports to appropriate areas in a timely manner. Operates testing equipment. Sets up and calibrates echo equipment to correspond with specified test and desired data/results. Maintains supplies and equipment needed for prompt and efficient performance of testing. Evaluates tracings as being done and modifies procedures or performs additional tests to obtain maximum results. Assists the physician/s in performing transesophageal echocardiograms. Observes patients during testing for signs of cardiac distress. Notifies physicians immediately of any medical emergencies and obtains the necessary medical support equipment and personnel.

Education
Required: High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

Required: 1 year of clinical experience.

Certifications:
Required: BLS.

Preferred: ARDMS or CCI.
