Position Summary

Assists with quality patient care in a supervisory role. Provides respiratory therapy to patients as prescribed. Helps supervise and instruct staff including students. Reports directly to Director of Cardiopulmonary Services.

Shift: Days
Hours: 0600-1830
Schedule: 3 (12) hour shifts per week. 72 hours per pay period.

Position Accountabilities

  • Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating, and monitoring work. Performs work of a similar nature.
  • Communicates to department director those matters requiring action. Communication is timely

and appropriate. 

  • Assists department director maintain departmental policies, procedures, and programs to ensure departmental effectiveness.
  • Assists by supervising cardiopulmonary employees to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Assists department employees receive timely orientation to the department(s) organization and the new hire checklist is properly completed.
  • Employees receive clear decisions and communication which are supportive of the organization’s strategic plan and are consistent with the sound management practices.
  • Identifies and takes appropriate action regarding poor performance on a consistent basis and in compliance with Hospital policy and procedure.
  • Sets an example for staff to follow that is consistent with sound management practices and compatible with the mission, values and goals of the organization.
  • Solicits appropriate information and feedback from employees to improve the performance of the department.
  • Establishes and maintains trust and mutual respect with peers, subordinates, superiors, and internal and external customers.
  • Helps establish and clarify performance goals for department and employees.
  • Assists in Quality Improvement criteria and providing in-service training for staff.
  • Promotes professionalism in staff and fosters teamwork on units.

 

  • Maintains current respiratory practice by attending educations programs; renewing license in a timely   manner. Evidence of recent attendance at educational programs; license has been renewed with no lapse in documentation.
  • Demonstrates competence in the area of infant, adolescent, adult, geriatric and pediatric patients (when/if assigned to these patients) relative to determining each patient’s age-related and other physical, psychological and cultural needs and carrying out patient care activities. Patients/Residents are treated with sensitivity according to their needs and age.
  • Complies with and supports the Safety, routine and Service Excellence accountabilities. 
  • Helps ensures that department(s) operates within or above guidelines that are established by regulatory/review agencies. Demonstrates a clear understanding and compliance of Title XXII, Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements that are applicable to the department(s) key functions.
  • Assists Director with implementation of department policy and procedures that are supportive of the continuous quality improvements (CQI) process and consistent with the organization’s mission, strategic plan and goals.
    • Quality improvements reports are submitted on time.
    • Solicits appropriate information and feedback from internal and external customers to improve the performance of department.
    • Provides coverage/relief for employees when they are participating on a Process Improvement Team (PIT).
    • Policy and procedure changes are defined and communicated with staff in a clear manner.
    • Encourage innovation and prudent risk taking and gives credit to employees for their ideas.
    • Interdepartmental/intradepartmental conflicts are resolved using a CQI approach.
  • Supervises employees of the department to achieve department and organizational goals.
    • Helps maintain current employee files, forwarding any pertinent data to Director of Cardiopulmonary.
    • Makes rounds on Acute and CCC Respiratory Therapy units serving as a supervisor and resource staff.
  • Orders and stocks respiratory supplies including special orders as assigned by department director.
  • Attends required number of department meetings, LDI, educational programs, and in-service meetings.
  • Helps with shift coverage and is available for on call when needed.
  • Assists department director review payroll and API corrections and approvals input for payroll processing when needed.
  • Assists department director with direct reports and internal customer rounding.
  • Helps educate department staff to the Hospital customer service standards; i.e., Standards of Excellence, AIDET, etc. Monitors adherence to the standards and reports to director 
  • Participates in peer interviews.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Physical demands: 

  • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
  • Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies

Working Conditions:

  1. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations

Minimum Education/Certification/Experience:

  • Associates Degree/Graduate of accredited program in respiratory therapy.
  • Supervisory Experience Required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in ICU, Med/Surg, ED and OB level 1.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in leadership role
  • Current ACLS, PALS, NRP, BLS
  • Current California state license

Pay Range: $42.93 - $66.52 hourly **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
