Job Summary / Responsibilities:

Directs the Quality and Compliance Department for Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM). Directs unexpected clinical event investigation and oversees recommendations/follow-through. Ensures compliance with internal and external standards and principles of medical safety and infection control. Responsible for on-going hospital readiness for accreditation. Responsible for leading the RIM employees and physicians on the journey to become a high reliable organization.

Oversees policy, pathway, protocol, guideline and/or pre-printed order development/implementation and analyzes results of their use. Identifies the need for policy development and/or revision, defines policies in collaboration with higher level management input, goals and objectives. Oversees the development, implementation and/or revision of procedures/protocols in accordance with system-wide goals and objectives. Approves procedures/protocols and/or seeks other departmental approvals as appropriate.

Develops, monitors and revises functional processes in accordance with goals and objectives. Provides input into the development and revision of organizational structure for area. Approves personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc. Ensures the timely completion of performance appraisals. Develops current to intermediate goals and measures for area. Measures and assesses performance. As requested, assists in long-range goal development. Develops and monitors budget for area.

Provides strategies to executive team to optimize reimbursement and ensure continued recognition as an inpatient rehabilitation hospital under Medicares Conditions of Participation. Collaborates with senior leadership to ensure documentation supports medical necessity for admission, appropriateness of continues stay, accuracy of FIM scores, and optimal CMG assignment/reimbursement. Collaborates with senior leadership to identify quality improvement and clinical resource management process improvement opportunities/priorities, develop quality/process improvement plans and implement appropriate interventions to improve clinical service outcomes of care and support achievement of system outcome standards.

Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws and government regulations. Responsible for DMC policies, as well as Joint Commission coordination and follow-up. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.



Qualifications:

1. Bachelors degree in Nursing. Masters degree in a health-related field or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience preferred. 2. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

3. Three to five years progressively more responsible experience in a related field.

4. Three years progressively more responsible management experience in an acute care facility with at least one year of frequent involvement with senior management, physicians and outside patient care providers.

5. Experience in the use of personal computers as well as knowledge of statistical or spreadsheet software tools.

Facility Description:

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
