DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and full service outreach infrastructure which includes patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system and billing department. The DMC University Laboratories service area covers the entire Southeast Michigan market, and is growing at a rapid pace with the following outstanding features: Test menu of over 1,000 tests, which includes high end specialty tests. Less than 1% of our tests are sent to outside reference laboratories. Provide reference laboratory services to many of the other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and several out of state facilities.
Job Summary
Plans, organizes and manages overall operations of a large, diverse laboratory at the Central Campus, including Harper Stat lab, Central campus Blood Bank, Specialty Labs and Anatomic Pathology, which provide testing for DMC facilities and outreach clients. Identifies the need for policy development and/or revision, defines policies in collaboration with higher-level management input, goals and objectives.
Oversees or directs the development and/or revision of function, department, or service procedures/protocols. Approves procedures/protocols and/or seeks other department approvals as appropriate and ensures that laboratory sections comply with regulatory and licensing agencies.
Develops, monitors and revises functional processes. Provides input into developing and revising organizational structure for a function or service. Approves personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc. Ensures the timely completion of performance appraisals.
Develops current to intermediate goals and measures for a major function, multiple units/areas, or processes. Measures and assesses performance.
As requested, assists in long-range goal development. Assists in the development of and monitors the budget for a major function, multiple units/areas, or processes. Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for the diversity of their suppliers.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, biology or related science. Masters degree preferred.
2. Five or more years of progressively more responsible experience in supervision or administration of laboratory operations.
3. Registered as a technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, National Certifying Agency or equivalent desirable.
