Children’s Hospital of Michigan is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, thoracic, reconstructive and cardiovascular. Imaging technology designed specifically for children provides advanced diagnostic services including Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Emergency Department is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy and six ambulatory sites.
Summary:
Directs an organization's overall supply chain operations for a facility or multiple facilities, including purchasing, inventory and distribution of supplies and equipment. Responsible for the financial performance, including the evaluation of spend to established targets, contract compliance, budget, forecast etc. Develops strategic plans to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations utilizing analytical and project management skills. Ensures that issues regarding existing and new products are resolved in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Directs product conversion efforts at the hospital. Build relationships with peers and administrative leadership through effective communication and interpersonal skills. Participate on various committees and meetings. Leads and directs the work of others. Performs a variety of tasks as assigned.
General Management:
• Responsible for all activities of the Supply Chain departments for a hospital or multi-hospitals
• Responsible for managing spend in medical/non-medical supplies and all purchased services
• Supports the capital procurement process by providing quote and quote reviews, assist with the development of a capital budget, create CERs, track and report status to administration
• Drives organization toward committed contract compliance thru direct engagement with physicians and other key stakeholders
• Participate in national/regional contract development efforts and initiatives
• Fosters an environment designed around customer service; develop subordinate team members in customer-focused service delivery; advance a collaborative culture between Supply Chain and Nursing/Ancillary departments
• Develops leading practices in purchasing, inventory control, receiving and storage, distribution, material processing, and returns
• Oversees the hospital's vendor management program to ensure vendors are credentialed and approved to be on site
• Develops and deliver presentations to administration or regional leadership regarding efforts to increase efficiencies, improve inventory turns and value, contract compliance and hospital identified savings initiatives and achievements
• Actively participate in Advisory Committees
• Performs regular supply spend and utilization analysis; regularly reviews cost accounting accuracy and remedies inaccuracies; conduct end of period rate adjusted variance analysis of spend to explain positive and negative variances to budget
• Achieves ongoing compliance with all regulatory and accreditation criteria
• Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to employees and customers; demonstrated by workplace visibility and knowledge of issues/systems/standards
• Leads hospital level and company-wide process improvement initiatives
• Supports Tenet and hospital established goals and objectives
• Demonstrates ability to lead thru period of change – leads department positively
• Demonstrates objectivity in decision making and fact based analysis
• Demonstrates cooperative management style that eliminates boundaries to achieve integrated, efficient and quality service
People Management:
• Assures employee compliance with Tenet policies and procedures
• Delegates assignments and set clear expectations
• Directs selection of personnel for hire and promotion; takes appropriate actions regarding progressive counseling and executes disciplinary actions as required
• Responds proactively to employee needs and concerns
• Conducts periodic performance feedback sessions and completes annual performance evaluations on direct reports
• Facilitates consensus among employee groups and manages personnel conflicts
• Minimizes staff turnover through continuous staff rounding and engagement
• Directs employee continuing education and job competency training plans
• Oversees time and labor applications and work schedules
• Communicates effectively with all levels in the organization
• Develops personally and in others subject matter experts (SME)
Department/Business Unit Management:
• Regularly inspects workplace for safety concerns and remedies issues discovered
• Acts as a steward of Tenet resources ensuring assets properly used
• Develops performance improvement activities and trains team members
• Conducts regular departmental staff meetings and safety huddles
• Attends/Leads meetings and committees in absence of senior leaders as needed
• Leads efforts to discover cost savings opportunities / devise implementation plans
• Ensures compliance with Group Purchasing Organization contracts
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business or Health Care Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred
2. Five or more years of progressively more responsible Supply Chain and/or materials management experience, including two or more years in a managerial role to include budget management.
3. Certified Materials and Resource Professional (CMRP) preferred.
Skills Required:
1. Analytical ability to serve in an advisory/consultative role in determining and/or developing strategies, policies and processes, protocols and methods, frequently in the absence of guidelines or technical assistance, and to evaluate and direct complex systems that foster innovative approaches to procedures/processes on a system-wide basis.
2. Communication and interpersonal skills for frequent contacts with internal customers as well as stakeholders external to the DMC to persuade or negotiate on a wide range of subjects in situations which may be controversial, sensitive and/or lead to confrontation. A mastery of a variety of communication modalities is required to include leading meetings, making formal presentations, and writing complex documents and managing complex relationships over time.
3. Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner.
4. Leadership skills including demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability, comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and counseling skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support.
5. Thorough knowledge of supply chain concepts and approved practices in order to affect the total supply chain.
