Children’s Hospital of Michiganis an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, thoracic, reconstructive and cardiovascular. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Emergency Department is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy and six ambulatory sites.

Summary

This position is an advanced level position. In addition to the usual competencies of the infection Preventionist, the ICP II is able to perform complex project work with interdisciplinary groups that include senior administrators, nursing and medical staff independently with minimal supervision from their immediate supervisor. Under minimal supervision of the immediate supervisor, leads the program with expertise in surveillance utilizing epidemiological principles according to internal thresholds, external benchmarks including the CDC/NHSN benchmarks and acts as a liaison with the CDC. Skilled at data analysis and reporting to committees. leadership and departments as needed. Initiates and participates in RCA reports with the identification of HAIs and discussion with appropriate staff for review and feedback to appropriate committees. Expert in the use of Theradoc with inservicing to new staff and assisting with resolution of issues. Skilled in leading committees and has the ability to chair the infection control committee if required. Leads or co-leads multi-disciplinary teams, guides implementation plans and acts as a consultant or facilitator on infection prevention issues including outbreak investigations, proactive prevention strategies and complex case reviews. Guides or develops a work plan including timelines, measurable goals; Ensures teams are organized through meeting agendas and a method to document goals, responsibility and progress; Demonstrates an ability to develop an effective communication plan. Seeks leadership guidance appropriately to assist with the identification of obstacles to success. Designs and delivers educational programs to assist employees, physicians and leadership, meet infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and quality goals. Specific education includes, but is not limited to, orientation to infection prevention and control, aseptic technique, standard and transmission based precautions, immunization, sharps injury prevention, hand hygiene, equipment and environmental cleaning/disinfection/sterilization procedures. Independently conducts site visits and risk assessments in collaboration with construction teams to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field (i.e. Microbiology, Public Health) with knowledge of microbiology, infectious diseases and medical terminology, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • If a Registered Nurse, licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan.
  • Five years of Infection Prevention and Control experience in a healthcare setting. Registered Nurse experience preferred.
  • Certification in Infection Control required. Memberships in the Michigan Society of Infection Prevention and Control and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
