DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.

Summary:

Manages the services provided by a team of rehabilitation therapists, assistants, aides and students of the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan's inpatient services, an outpatient clinic site or multiple clinics of smaller scope Manages the work flow of rehabilitation services staffed by rehabilitation clinicians in various disciplines which may include Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Speech Language Pathology and Social Work.

Manages the business functions of the area(s) of responsibility including monitoring the timely scheduling of patients, monitoring staff documentation to ensure timeliness and compliance with third party payers, regulatory guidelines, managing staff productivity and utilizing data to recommend staffing needs.

Develops strategies to meet productivity targets for both visits and billable units. Ensures adherence to hospital and department policies and procedures.

Assists in the development and implementation of departmental directives and productivity standards. Assists senior therapists in patient prioritization, assignment and scheduling, and oversees the preparation of patient treatment protocols.

Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of the department's performance improvement efforts, ensuring that continuous process improvement standards are achieved and maintained.

Identifies the need for policy development and/or revision, defines policies in collaboration with higher level management, input, goals and objectives. Oversees or directs the development and/or revision of function, department, or service procedures, protocols and operations services.

Approves procedures/protocols and/or seeks other departmental approvals as appropriate. Develops, monitors and revises functional processes. Provides input into the development and revision of organizational structure for function. Approves personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc. Ensures the timely completion of performance appraisals.

Develops current to intermediate goals and measures for area(s) of responsibility. Measures and assesses performance.

As requested, assists in long range goal development. Assists in the development of sales and marketing plan for referral development for site/service. Assists in development of and monitors budget. Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.



Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Master's degree preferred.

2. Current licensure, registration and/or certification as applicable.

3. Three years of progressively more responsible management experience. Management experience in a health care setting or rehabilitation clinical setting preferred.
