Description
DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center, helped pioneer the evolution of emergency medicine and currently has one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments anywhere. The first and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and it is one of only 43 in the nation. Receiving also offers the state’s leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized and accredited DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence.
Summary Description
The Nurse Extern II (NE II) is a member of the patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.
- The NE II is assigned to work under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and NE II skills and abilities.
- The NE II will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
- It is recognized that specific patient care tasks may vary widely in type and frequency from unit to unit or across service lines, based on the nature of the patient population being served.
- The Nurse Extern II will be assigned to an experienced RN each shift and will assist with providing patient care such as ADLS, vitals, ambulation and other duties within the scope of patient care tech or equivalent.
- The assigned RN instructs and mentors the Nurse Extern II in the assigned clinical area and provides feedback on an ongoing basis.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants can apply starting 6 months before graduation from an accredited school of nursing and must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
