DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and full service outreach infrastructure which includes patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system and billing department. The DMC University Laboratories service area covers the entire Southeast Michigan market, and is growing at a rapid pace with the following outstanding features: Test menu of over 1,000 tests, which includes high end specialty tests. Less than 1% of our tests are sent to outside reference laboratories. Provide reference laboratory services to many of the other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and several out of state facilities.

Job Summary

Under general supervisor, applies an advanced level of knowledge and experience in immunohematology section to conduct and interpret specialized and/or innovative testing, analysis, and procedures. Works with Medical Director on test methodology and validation.

Assists with troubleshooting non-compliance performance of instruments, equipment, and assays. Serves as a technical resource to staff.

May assist in research and specialized projects as directed by the Medical Director. Provides back-up coverage for technical staff to meet staffing needs. Maintains quality, compliance, and safety of blood products and equipment, and reports deviations to appropriate federal and accrediting agencies.



Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, related science or clinical discipline, or Canadian degree in clinical discipline and completion of accredited Canadian Technologist program . Master’s degree in related science or clinical discipline desirable.
  2. Registry eligible or registered by ASCP, Canadian CSMLS, NCA ( National certifying Agency) AMT. Blood Bank (BB) categorical or Blood Bank Specialist (SBB) certification by ASCP is desirable.
  3. Minimal of 3 years of experience with immunohematological (blood bank) techniques in a clinical environment is desirable.
  4. Knowledge of complex clinical testing procedures, tools, equipment and method validation standards.
