Description

Position Summary

Position responsible for maintaining and coordinating the service schedule for non-surgical areas. Monitors and schedules all outpatient cases. Records all pertinent information into the scheduling book for pre-procedure phone calls and references. Maintains good rapport and working relations with internal and external customers. This position may verify insurance eligibility.

Special Skills: Must have knowledge of basic mathematics. Requires considerable logic and understanding to analyze problem and determine course of action. Proficient at interpersonal relationships. Reads, writes and orally communicates at a level to correctly explain information. Must have the ability to operate a telephone, computer, copy machine, and fax machine as required. Requires attention to detail. Works regularly with confidential information. Must be familiar with medical terminology. Bi-lingual preferred.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities 

  • Schedule and register patients requiring phone interaction to organize, arrange, and coordinate patient and facility needs by considering variable as diagnosis, personnel resources, equipment needs, patient availability, patient need, duration of treatment, insurance eligibility, safety needs and physician orders.  
  • May obtain information, including patient demographics and all insurance information, completing appropriate forms and performing data input. Schedules consist of time of procedure, patient’s name, patient’s date of birth, patient type (i.e. outpatient, am admission or outpatient short stay etc.)  
  • Obtains insurance authorization and precertification when required within appropriate time frames and document information along with information of who provided such information.  
  • Compiles complete patient folder with appropriate signatures and documentation, providing ancillary departments with appropriate copies as required by facility.  
  • Reviews precertification letters as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Minimum requirements are a High School Diploma or equivalent GED and prior clerical experience. 
  • Preferred is at least One-year experience in scheduling.
