Physician Extender for Orthopedic Specialists at West Campus

General Summary: The Physician Extender provides care to patients exclusively within the medical practice setting. He/she cares for a variety of patients, incl. professional athletes, and their musculoskeletal injuries, supporting the supervising physician in clinic as part of the initial patient assessment, follow-up visits and post-operative care.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
- Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
- Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of certification.
- Will demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
- Will develop and carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/and physician supervisor.
- Will maintain NATA and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions.
- Perform administrative tasks such as keeping records and writing reports on injuries and treatment programs.
- Plan and implement comprehensive programs to prevent injury and illness among athletes and patients
- Will work exclusively in the clinic setting as designated by physician supervisor and practice leadership
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in health related field.
Certification: National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) and state Athletic Trainer Certification if applicable. CPR certification.
Experience: Minimum of one year working in a training capacity in a competitive athletic setting. One year experience in orthopedic setting preferred.
