Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department.  Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Coordinate scheduling for patients and clinical staff, integrating each parties’ needs for optimum results. Resolve a variety of problems and issues by acting as a liaison between patients and staff.

These services further the vision of Desert Regional Medical Center to create unique environments, where patients, their families, doctors and staff come together to achieve longer and better lives in the fight against cancer.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Schedule visits, treatments, outpatient procedures and hospital admissions for patients. Schedule meetings and time off for clinical staff. Update staff with schedule changes.

Check in all patients, collect registration information and copayments as needed, and direct them to appropriate personnel.

Facilitate patient care by providing information, resolving problems and assisting patients with issues outside the office if needed.

Handle incoming phone calls by responding to inquiries, resolving problems or directing calls to the appropriate staff.

Miscellaneous administrative duties for patients and staff.

Ensure that precertification requirements are met for scheduled outpatient procedures and hospital admissions.

Audit daily superbills and copayments for accuracy and completeness.

Maintain monthly physician statistics.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  1. Management and Clinical staff - Provide undated information and respond to requests as needed.
  2. Office - Support office activities through exchange of information, acting as a resource for scheduling issues and delegating incoming requests to the appropriate staff.
  3. Patients/families - Coordinate scheduling, provide information and maintain supportive connection.
  4. Hospital/outpatient clinic staff - Schedule procedures and admissions, exchange information as needed.
  5. Outside physicians/nurses - Coordinate meetings and appointments, exchange information and respond to requests.
  6. Insurance companies - Precertify procedures and admissions.
  7. Pharmaceutical representatives - Act as liaison for clinical staff, receive information and schedule meetings as necessary

MAJOR CHALLENGES

  1. Balancing the conflicting scheduling needs of clinical staff and patients.
  2. Responding to multiple urgent requests during high-volume periods.
  3. Communicating with difficult patients to reach mutually acceptable compromises.

DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Scheduling of appointments within office guidelines.
  2. Determining appropriate response to inquiries and requests.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required:
  • Complies with regulatory requirements (i.e. TJC) appropriate for position.
  1. Experience with scheduling in a medical office.
  2. Basic knowledge of health insurance types and payors.
  3. Medical terminology.
  4. Experience with medical office software and Microsoft Office.
  5. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  6. Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently.
  7. Teamwork skills.

Pay range: $16.48 - $24.73 hourly

Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
