Nurse Extern II Per Diem Nights Position Summary
The nurse extern position is recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing and is defined as a student nurse employed by a facility, and currently enrolled in a board-approved or accredited nursing program, who has completed at least their first clinical rotation or is a graduate from a Board-approved or accredited nursing program waiting to take NCLEX. Nurse Externs are ineligible to work in this role after receiving RN licensure.
The purpose of the nurse externship is to enhance education and to facilitate the transition in the RN role while assuring safe and effective nursing care. The nurse extern may obtain basic data, document in the medical record, and with documented competency, may perform fundamental nursing skills per facility policy and as outlined by the AZ Board of Nursing.
SPECIAL SKILLS:Able to demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and attitude of a safe competent nurse/caregiver. This includes consistently demonstrating patient-centered care, teamwork, collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvements and outcomes, systems-based thinking, leadership, professionalism, and effective communication.
THE NURSE EXTERN II PER DIEM NIGHTS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Completion of at least the 1st clinical semester rotation.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Completion of the 2nd of 4 clinical semester rotations.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: BLS/CPR
REQUIRED COURSE(S) TRAINING: Graduate from an accredited nursing program and eligible to take the NCLEX within 6 months of hire.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATION: ACLS
