Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Technician provides individualized, culture-specific patient care by attending to the personal needs and comfort of patients. Assists the professional or licensed nurse as delegated in tasks requiring less technical skills. Participates in shift and bedside report, performs phlebotomist duty, clerical/reception unit clerk duties as assigned, and assists in promoting an organized, efficient, smoothly functioning unit. Participates and supports regional, facility, department, and unit initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Performs or assists with activities of daily living (ADL): Bathing/bed bath/shower, Skin care Dressing, Oral/denture hygiene, Shampoo/hair care, Fingernail care, Back care, Perineal care, Toileting, Feeding/hydration - Prepares patient for meals, Serves/removes tray, Feeds or assists with meals, AM/PM care
- Obtains vital signs, pulse oximetry, temperature, height/ weight, intake and output Obtains accuchek; documents; reports untoward findings to registered nurse in a timely manner
- Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary Foley catheter – care, measures output Enema Assist in use of bedpan, commode Assist in walking to bathroom
- Maintains the patient's environment Completes white board in patient's room Change linen/ bed making Straightening patient environment-cleaning over bed table, and nightstand
- Participates in Hourly Rounding Responds to patient's personal needs Positions patient as instructed by RN Reports complaints of pain to RN Recognizes abnormal/normal changes in patient condition and communicates timely to RN
Qualifications
Special Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills; basic computer skills; high level of attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors and health care team members. Knowledge of patient rights, medical terminology, aseptic/sterile technique and infection control best practices.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
- Minimum Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
- Experience: Must be able to complete blood draws independently.
- Preferred Requirements:
- Certification/License: CNA/LNA from the Arizona State Board of Nursing
- Required: CPR
- Experience: One year of experience in an acute care setting.
