Laboratory Assistant I PRN Rotating Position Summary
Responsible for the collection of blood specimens ensuring patient safety and consistency with age-specific considerations for all patients, neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics as well as employees. Performs venous, capillary and infant heel sticks to ensure specimen integrity. Follows proper labeling protocols for specimen tubes/containers. Follows order of draw/collection. Performs clerical functions, processing duties, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens and training of students and employees. Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned. Must be knowledgeable of emergency procedures. Inputs and retrieves data from laboratory /hospital computer system.
THE LABORATORY ASSISTANT I PRN ROTATING CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
Qualifications:
Individual must possess the ability to:
Communicate effectively with physicians, coworkers, and nursing staff. Prioritization and organizational skills. Perform venipuncture and maintain specimen integrity

Education/Other Qualifications:
Minimum Education: A high school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum Experience: 6 months of job-related experience preferred. Venipuncture experience required.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses: American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required, must be obtained within 7 days of hire.
