Up to $5,000 Sign-on Bonus Based on Eligibility

Under the direction of the Nurse, performs sub-professional duties including providing patient care to meet the needs of activities of daily living; operation and maintenance of equipment. Takes and records vital signs and I/Os. Assists licensed staff and physicians as directed within approved standards. Performs other related duties as directed. Assumes the responsibility for meeting the basic needs of all patients assigned. Provides care to a patient population ranging from infant to geriatric, unless otherwise indicated. Works collaboratively with the health care team, is customer focused and strives to meet unit and hospital goals. Provides quality care according to established practice standards and guidelines for the area(s) assigned. Must be willing/able to float to other (comparable) nursing units, as requested/needed. Performs and coordinates the clerical and public relations functions for the unit, as well as coordinating patient services and tests provided by the other ancillary hospital departments; acts as unit receptionist receiving and directing visitors. Assumes the responsibility for correctly transcribing orders on all patients assigned. Works collaboratively with the health care team, is customer focused and strives to meet unit and hospital goals. Provides quality work according to established practice standards and guidelines for the area(s) assigned. Must be willing/able to float to other (comparable) nursing units, as requested/needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately checks patient’s blood sugar and documents results as ordered (all values are correctly reported to attending nurse)
  • Obtains vital signs appropriately based on patient’s age and condition.  Reports abnormal findings immediately to attending or charge nurse  
  • Performs ADLs on all patients assigned including oral care and assisting with feedings when indicated.
  • Ambulates and assists patients out of bed as ordered by physician/nurse
  • Obtains weights on all admissions and performs daily weights on patients when ordered
  • Coordinates care with other health professionals.
  • Carries out nurses’ treatment plans continuously.
  • Displays ability and willingness to respond to the needs of other health team members as needed.
  • Performs patient interventions completely and proficiently within scope of practice and demonstrates age specific competency for population of patients served.
  • Prioritizes activities and adjusts assignments according to changes in patient’s needs.
  • Provides appropriate treatment in emergency situations as they arise (i.e. codes, patient falls).
  • Documents all patient data in chart within a timely manner (vitals, weight, I/Os)
  • Notifies nurse of changes in patient’s condition
  • Practices infection control in all actions.
  • Executes legible writing with correct spelling in documentation.
  • Completes all assignments, according to established standards of care and within given time frame.
  • Monitors utilization of equipment and supplies and assists in inventory control
  • Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology; asks questions to clarify misunderstandings.
  • Maintains accurate, orderly chart files
  • Assists physicians by providing patient charts when requested
  • Communicates STAT orders to appropriate personnel within a few minutes
  • Schedules tests and treatments efficiently in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Takes messages accurately and promptly and forwards them to the appropriate person
  • Accurately and clearly transcribes all routine orders within appropriate time and communicates orders to appropriate staff.
  • Batches charges accurately and in a timely manner

Qualifications

Minimum Education:  High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous work experience in a patient care role can meet education requirement.

Minimum Experience: Minimum of six months of work experience preferred.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:  Completion of CNA course required; must be certified within 6 months of employment, and/or completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited Nursing Curriculum with the intention to complete a nursing degree required.  American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required, must be obtained within 7 days of hire. CPI required within orientation.
